Literacy has the potential to significantly benefit individuals with intellectual disabilities, both academically and emotionally. Literacy contributes to the development of problem-solving skills, decision-making, and communication. At Community Living Central York, we provide education on phonological awareness, sight word instruction, syllabication, and high-quality literature.

Our Literacy Program teaches individuals basic literacy skills including, letter/word recognition, verbal communication, sign language, numeracy, recognition of money, and purchasing skills. Different teaching strategies are introduced to accommodate diverse learning styles. Our Literacy Program makes a tremendous impact on the lives and independence of people we support.
